Sand Mining Ruin’ tells the story of the river sand thieves, their illegal mining of our rivers and the horrific environmental destruction. Sand mining corporations are destroying our drinking water sources, stealing our soil that we need to grow our food, chopping the trees and plants that give us oxygen and destroying a place called home for many river and land species.
The film traces the damage caused to the conduits of our drinking water. Rivers are vital to our survival. Government officials and environmentalists work in dangerous criminal territories. With a heartfelt love for people and nature, the environmental officials and activists work tirelessly to put an end to this problem as it affects all of us. These defenders come from environmental organisations and enforcement units. They are trying to stop illegal mining but are met with threats as the river sand thieves believe themselves to be above the law – they hold officials at gunpoint. This documentary tells it all - from the scars on the floodplains to polluted water to dying habitats to the life-threatening dangers posed by these outlaws. A stark horror story with bitter irony - the very protectors of citizens, of our drinking water and sources of life are subjected to attacks.
This is a film aimed at environmental change and forms part of Wolverine Productions' campaign against illegal and unregulated river sand mining.
